Piaule Catskill, spa hotel

Recommended stay: 2 or 3 nights

For those with cash to burn, or looking to make amends with their partner, there can be few better options than Piaule Catskill spa hotel in the Catskills.

Unlike many of its competitors, this 24-cabin resort understands the importance of privacy – and all the benefits that come with it!

The venue is never particularly full, meaning guests can dine in comfort with attentive staff and only a few other tables occupied. And the three-room spa is virtually private, with myself only bumping into someone else there twice on my six visits.

Overall, Piaule Catskill is a charming place to stay, recuperate and have great sex. I simply cannot wait to return!

The hotel itself is laid out as a small group of cabins neatly tucked away in a natural woodland. Guests wake to glorious sunshine and the sound of birds, and go to sleep at night listening to the quiet chirpings of crickets and cicadas.

It is but a short five to ten-minute walk to the spa from the cabins. The main spa is laid out with a small gym – which is basically equipped for yoga only – two massage rooms, a meditation room and then the main spa rooms. For these, they have a steam room, dry sauna room and, the main event, the room with the two swimming pools.

My top tips for staying:

  • Book mid-week, this is when rates are lower and you’re also even less likely to bump into other guests;
  • Bring some food! Priced at $120 each for dinner and about $20 per cocktail (excluding tip), the restaurant is lovely – but likely to leave even the most able-pursed concerned for the health of their bank account. the music of crickets and cicadas sunshine. Fortunately, there are several lovely shops in Hudson that will provide sandwiches for you to take up at barely a fraction of the price;
  • Avoid cabin 12; This one overlooks the woodland walk, meaning private activities may be disturbed. Luckily, the venue is very accomodating;
  • Don’t plan to do ANYTHING! This trip is all about relaxation, so trying to stick to your daily New York fitness regimen or pilates simply will not do.

Review: Where to stay in Catskills For those with cash to burn, this Catskill spa resort is the place for you. Unlike many competitors, Piaule understands the importance of privacy. The result? The place is never too crowded – allowing you to dine in comfort in its restaurant and enjoy the three-room spa as if it was your own private detox area. My darling partner said he had never felt more relaxed. My tips: It’s best to go mid-week, taking some annual leave is worth it! Oh, and, if you get lodge 12 – the one with the path in front – ask to move, they will be very obliging! Overall, five stars! A dream come true resort and I can’t wait to go again!
